Cookery Clubs...Summer School...Big Fish Friday...Food for Energy Day...
These are just some of the events we are organising with the support of our Big Lottery grant and Chances4Change.
In January we launched our project as part of the Chances4Change programme that runs across the south east of England. We have funding for three years and our aim is to offer fun and informative activities that get families and children eating well and enjoying great food on a budget.
Calling all foodies! Do you love cooking? Do you enjoy fresh food and lovely ingredients? Would you like to share your love of good food and cooking with children?
If so, why not lead an After School Cookery club at the school?
You don’t need any experience as we will support you all the way. If you are interested, you would need to come along to four morning sessions to get some training with other parents. These will take place in Dover on Wednesdays 1,8,15 and 22 October; or in Deal on Thursdays 2,9,16 and 23 October, from 10am to 12.30pm.
The After School Clubs will last for an hour and a quarter. The children will be able to make snacks, smoothies and uncooked dishes they can then take home to bake. There’s lots we can do and they will have fun tasting new ingredients and trying different foods.
We want to help the children make good food choices so they stay healthy and well nourished. But most of all we want to help them enjoy preparing and eating lovely food with good ingredients. We hope it will be fun and inspiring.
So , if you would like to get involved, please give Stephanie Hayman a ring on 01304 362563 or text/ring Lucy Beasley on 07795 427435. Alternatively, email Stephanie here.
A recent activity was a Cookery Summer School held at Castle Community School from 28th July to 1st August 2008. 20 children and adults took part and learnt amazing cookery skills. They chopped, sliced, baked, fried and boiled! They used food processors, electric whisks, graters, squeezes and garlic crushers! They prepared and cooked lasagne, savory pies, chocolate truffle cake, kipper paté, summer fruit Swiss roll and much more. And on the final day, they triumphed by preparing a buffet lunch for 180 children and adults from the Year 7 Summer School. Well done all of you!
Here are some pictures from the Summer School:

After four days' Cookery School, the children, mums and grandparents were skilled and confident enough to prepare an impressive buffet for 180 people.
Lots of concentration required!
A guest appearance from Chocalottalove and we learned about the health benefits of raw chocolate flavoured with fruit and natural sweetener such as agave syrup.
