include schools without their own kitchens, which are served from one of our
production kitchens. Meals are transported in insulated boxes and served hot at
the servery-only schools.
Would your school like to join our client schools and receive a professional and
high quality service from Whole School Meals?
Would you like the option to become a shareholding school and have a say in how we are run?
We are able to offer a contracted school meals service to schools across East Kent.
What are the benefits?
Tasty, nutritious meals that children enjoy and that meet the nutritional requirements set down by the government
Our dinners are prepared on-site (except in schools that don't have their own kitchens) by our trained and experienced Cooks. We use fresh produce supplied by local companies. All our iingredients are high quality and of the standard you would expect to use at home - no caterers packs of frozen mince!
You can be assured that our primary goal is to serve great lunches that the children enjoy.
We no other agenda - just to produce high quality school lunches. And as we are majority-owned by a group of schools, you can rest assured that any surpluses we make will be re-invested in the service or used to support the school community.
Excellent communication between schools and Whole School Meals Ltd
As a local company, we maintain strong contact with our client schools. Our management team, including our Chief Executive Officer, visits schools regularly. Our Directors are all professional local people who volunteer their time because they are passionate about supporting children’s health and education through good nutrition. .
Staff benefit from training in craft skills and nutrition
We have a policy of maximising opportunities for our catering staff to improve
their skills and gain qualifications.
We employ a mobile trainer to provide 1-1 and small-group craft skills training,
on-site.
All our cooks and assistant cooks have participated in bespoke training to
enable them to prepare our menus from scratch.
We have supported 13 members of our of team to take NVQ Level 2 cooking and
craft skills qualifications. Our staff have attended Level 2 accredited
training in Nutrition. Several have attended School Food Trust events including
regional conferences.
We would aim to offer similar opportunities to any new staff.
A wider-interest in young peoples' well-being
Our company is firmly rooted in the school community and in close contact with
parents, grandparents, teachers and, of course, children. If follows that we
have an interest beyond serving nutritious and tasty school dinners.
IFor example, between 2008 and 2010 we participated in the Chances4Change project funded by the Big Lottery's Well-Being Fund. As a result, Whole School Meals works with schools to offer our young people opportunities to explore the benefits and pleasures of eating well, including cookery clubs and Taste Buddies projects.
Activities under the Chances4Change programme included after-school cookery clubs and parent and child cookery classes and themed events such as "Big Fish Fridays" and “Food for Energy” days.
If you would like to talk to us about the service we could offer your school,
